My youngest son, Aidan, will celebrate his third birthday on Friday.

I started these birthday interviews with his older brother Jacek.

This is Aidan’s first one.

There was a consistent flow of his answers, lots of ums and lots of breaks in between questions.

(not to mention some bribing)

There were a few temper tantrums and a few re-starts as well but

the end result is always worth it.

Hi there.

What is your name? Ai-dan (He tends to say it Ay-dee but he really took his time and sounded it out in order to answer)

If you could change your name, what name would you pick?
That name.  Um.  That name.  D.

Why D?
Cuz I want to.

How old are you?  2
(I asked him this on Friday August 5)

How old are you going to be? Older

Which is what? Three!

Are you excited about being 3?
Uh huh

Why?

Cuz I like that.

What is your favorite:
cereal – um, stars  (lucky charms)
vegetable – trees

You eat trees?  Ya, I like branch

drink – um. soda. 

When do you drink soda?  Cuz I want to
toy – um.  My bunny hat  (his bike helmet)
TV Show – Qubo (actual t.v. channel)

game – butterfly

Is that a real game?  YES!  (he started getting upset because I must have looked confused) 

Can you tell me about the game butterfly?  (Huffing) You fly around and stuff.  (Huffing)  I don’t want to talk to you anymore. 

(And he left the room)

(Lured him back with promise of a snack)

What is your favorite book? – that MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! (no idea what this is)
restaurant – um.  Outside.

holiday –(I didn’t think he would know what holiday meant but I asked him anyway)

Um.  Five. 

When is that holiday?

Um.  Cuz it’s nice outside and storm clouds and rain that falls and you heard that storm cloud. (no it was not raining when I was asking him these questions)

animal – big lion

Why do you like lions?  Cuz I like one, one of those. 

What do you like most about yourself? Um.  The van.

You like riding in the van?

Why? Because I want to.

What is your favorite thing to do? Um. Play hockey.

What is something you DON’T like to do? Um.  Hockey

What do you dream about? Sleep

Is that scary? (Shaking head No)  STORM CLOUDS SCARE ME!!

What do you want to be when you are a grown up? Um. 2. 

Mommy means when you are older like Daddy.  What do you want to do?  (SCREAMS; and not nicely) 2

If you could go anywhere you want, where would you go?  At Kango and the next Kango I will jump…jumpeee. And play.

What do you like most about Mommy? Um.  Boom the Rocket.
How old is your Mommy?  Um.  2.
What is something Mom always says to you? Um.  Tell me don’t touch my drink.

How do you know your mom loves you? Cuz I want to.

But how do you know?  CUZ I WANT TO!! (yes he screamed this; and no, not nicely)

What makes mom happy? Um.  You do.
What makes mom sad? Um.  Cow’s that moo moo moo.
How does your mom make you laugh?  Um {{{Screeches}}}  Like that.

What is your moms favorite thing to do? Ahhh, play.

What is your mom really good at?  Why you talk all the time?
What is your mom not very good at?  Play

What does your mom do for her job? Play
What makes you proud of your mom? Um
What do you and your mom do together? Um. Play.

Where is your mom’s favorite place to go? Um. Krissys house (Aunt Kristen, my sister, who lives next door to us)
What is Mommy going to do while you’re at school?  Um. Go to sleep and wake up then come and get me.

(GETTING RESTLESS!)

What do you like most about Daddy? Ummmmmmm.  Hmmmmmm.  Colors pictures.
How old is your Daddy?  2

What is your Dad’s favorite food? Um. Broccoli.

Are you and Daddy the same?  Yeah

How?  I don’t want to do this no.

(I try to talk to him, get him to listen but he’s not interested)

(I ask him again)

(Starts screaming hysterically and will not stop)

How strong is Daddy?  Um. Big.
How do you know when Daddy is proud of you?  Um. 2

What do you like most about Jacek?  JJ likes fruit chew.

What do you like to do with JJ? Play around
What do you like to eat for lunch?  Um.  French toast sticks

For lunch?  Yeah
What do you wish we did more of? Um. Play around.  Um play outside at the playground.  Um.  Play around with my drink and my soap.
What do you think is above the stars in the sky?  Um.  A storm cloud.
Name two things you want us to do as a family on the weekend? Um.  Play around
What is something you want to do that you’ve never done before?  Do the monkey bars.  No.  I can’t.  I need help.

What do you want for your birthday?  A card.  Maybe Mommy?
